FX Hedging

Hedging

Hedging in foreign exchange (FX) is a financial strategy used to reduce or eliminate the risk of adverse price movements in an asset (e.g. a currency), typically by taking an offsetting position in a related security, such as a derivative in the futures market.

Example: An airline company buys oil futures contracts to lock in fuel prices and protect against potential increases in oil prices.
