Margin

The collateral required by a broker to cover the credit risk of a trader, ensuring that the trader can cover potential losses. Margin allows traders to control larger positions with less capital, leveraging their investments. Subsequently, the risk of significant losses rises too.

Example: A trader is required to deposit $1,000 as margin to control a $10,000 position in the forex market, using leverage provided by the broker.
