FX Risk

Translation Risk

The risk that a company's financial statements will be affected by changes in exchange rates when consolidating foreign operations. Before including it on a balance sheet, the company must convert the foreign currency to its local currency.

Example: A U.S.-based company with subsidiaries in Europe must translate its financial results from euros to U.S. dollars, which could impact reported earnings if the exchange rate changes.
